Mental & Emotional Health

The practices that comprise yoga therapy- physical activity, breathing exercises, meditation, and mindfulness- have each been shown to improve outcomes for individuals who are managing all types of mental and emotional health concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation issues, eating disorders, and addiction.

In fact, many current forms of psychotherapy and counseling now incorporate some type of mindfulness or somatic component, as research is confirming what the yoga tradition has always known: the mind and body cannot be treated as separate entities- each one influences the other. A trauma to, or illness of, the mind or emotions is usually also reflected in the body, and working with the body can result in positive changes in the thoughts and emotions.

The purpose of yoga therapy is to supplement the care you’re receiving from your mental health provider. With an integrated approach, healing for the whole you becomes an achievable goal.

Neurological Disorders

Harness the power of neuroplasticity to create new connections and capabilities.

  • Improve neuromotor control and coordination

  • Prevent or slow cognitive decline

  • Address rigidity and dyskinesias common in neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease

  • Improve balance and build confidence so you can keep moving.

Chronic Pain

Our brain signals pain to let us know that something is wrong. Sometimes, that signal can become overly sensitive. The pain may remain after the original tissue damage is healed. Or the nervous system is signals danger in response to environmental triggers, stress, or even depression. In either case, the pain is real, but cannot be fixed through surgery and medication is only a temporary fix.

Yoga offers tools that address the root causes of chronic pain. Rather than simply numbing symptoms, you’ll rewire your neural response, helping the brain become more accurate in assessing when there is danger and be able to let go of old patterns that no longer serve you.

Osteoporosis

A bone fracture due to osteoporosis occurs every 3 seconds, making bone density one of the greatest health concerns for people over the age of 50.

Weight-bearing exercise has been shown to prevent, and even reverse, loss of bone density in individuals at any age. Yoga provides all of those benefits in a safe, low-impact format.

Alyana Ramirez is certified in Dr. Fishman’s Method for Osteoporosis, the only yoga program clinically proven to reverse bone loss without the use of medication.
