Respiratory & Immune Health

Respiratory & Immune Health: A Heart-Centered Practice

Fall is here, which means pumpkin spice, cooler air, and… cold/flu season. Plus COVID-19 is still a thing.

It’s been a year to remember, and at this point we’re all feeling a little run down. This restorative class is the hug you’re needing right now, and has the added benefit of supporting your respiratory health & immune function. (As my grandmother used to say: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.)

Because social connection is a key component in immune health, I’m offering this virtual class live. We’ll reconnect to ourselves and remember how to breathe fully, together. I hope you’ll join me in this journey back to a resilient body and an open heart.

$25/session

Please register in advance. I look forward to practicing with you!

Yoga for Digestion & Metabolic Health

While each gastrointestinal and metabolic condition is unique, stemming from different causes and requiring different approaches to healing, what they all have in common is an imbalance in our solar plexus chakra. Energy blocks here can result in ulcers, IBS, and liver, pancreas, or gall bladder disease, as well as wider systemic issues such as insulin imbalance (diabetes/hypoglycemia), hypertension, and chronic fatigue.

In this class, we’ll look at how breathing, movement, core muscle training, and adequate rest can address some of the main causes of digestive system issues and help us becomes stronger, more resilient, and better able to generate and sustain the energy we need.

Pelvic Floor Health

No. More. Kegel’s.

The pelvic floor is responsible for quite a lot. Things like holding up our pelvic organs; allowing our bladders, bowels, and reproductive organs to function properly; enabling healthy hip mechanics; contributing to balance during movement; and supporting our breath and vocalization.

Of course, being responsible for so much means that 1) there are many opportunities for dysfunction to set in, and 2) when there’s dysfunction in the pelvic floor, it can have a huge impact. Organ prolapse, incontinence, sexual dysfunction, and pain are just a few of the ways that pelvic dysfunction can manifest.

Unfortunately, we’ve chalked a lot of these issues up to the general aging process or irreversible trauma from things like childbirth and assume that the answer is building strength, usually through Kegel exercises. But in reality, weakness is not usually the issue (or at least, not the only one). Often, the pelvic floor muscles are either overactive, which causes them to become fatigued, or misfiring in relation to our other core muscles.

Yoga provides us with some wonderful tools to help us connect with our pelvic floor muscles and restore healthy functioning. This class will walk you through those practices and help you to apply them to your daily life.

  • Open to both sexes and all genders

  • Great for prevention as well as intro to self-treatment

Please register in advance. Class size in limited so I can give attention to each person.

Yoga for Osteoporosis

Dr. Fishman’s Method for Preventing and Reversing Osteoporosis/Osteopenia

You don’t need medications, hormone therapy, or high-impact exercise to improve your bone health.  Dr. Fishman’s Yoga Method for Osteoporosis has been proven through clinical trials to not only slow, but in many cases REVERSE bone loss, even in cases of severe osteoporosis.   Participants in the landmark, peer-reviewed study showed significant improvement in bone mineral density in the spine, femur, and hip after two years, by simply adding 12 minutes of yoga to their daily routine.

While many types of exercise can help to build bone density, this practice has been designed to maximize bone-building while minimizing risk of falls or fractures.  In this class, you’ll learn basic alignment and modifications to practice this sequence safely and effectively.

Please register in advance: class size is limited so I can give attention to each person.

Stability & Resilience during Crisis: Yoga for Adrenal & Autoimmune Support

Stability & Resilience: Yoga for Adrenal & Autoimmune Support

Our adrenal glands are an essential part of our neuroendocrine system, secreting the neurotransmitters and hormones we need to motivate action and effectively respond to stress. However, in the pace and chaos of today’s world, our adrenal glands are often overtaxed. Without attention and care they can eventually burn out, leading to some of the common hallmarks of what we often call ‘chronic stress:’ restlessness, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, depression, frequent illness, weight change (up or down), and so on.

Associated with the Root Chakra, imbalance in the adrenals can also show up as a fear of change, difficulties with finances, trouble focusing, and disordered eating.

I developed this class to support the adrenal glands and find balance in the root chakra. Rebuild a sense of calm, stability, and safety in the body and develop a new level of resilience, no matter what life throws at you.

Monday Morning Reset

FREE CLASS

This short and simple practice just might end up replacing your morning coffee...

Whether you've always struggled to get on your mat in the mornings, start a routine for a few days and then it inevitably drops off, or have an awesome morning routine already but would like to add my smiling face to it, I hope you'll consider joining me this Monday for the second session of my new class.  Starting and sticking to new habits is not always easy, and it helps to 1) have some support, and 2) not have to think about what you're supposed to do once you get on your mat.

I designed this class to make it hard for your brain to say 'no' to it. It starts at a normal-human hour, not a yogi hour, it's only 30 minutes long, and is accessible for all fitness levels. All you have to do is click the link below and get on your mat.  (Don't have a mat?  Join anyway. I promise you don't need one.)

While no class is perfect for every single person, I think everyone will benefit from this class in some way.  If you have any questions or are concerned about whether this class is appropriate for you, don't hesitate to reach out to me before or after class.
